Today started with a pastry and coffee at a chain diner before hopping on the Uptown tour bus. This went through the upper west side visiting sites such as Columbus University, Grants Tomb and numerous famous buildings such as the one used in Ghostbusters, where John Lennon got shot and the impressive St Johns Cathedral before heading into Harlem and the Museum Mile. Central Park is huge and is amazing to see in the middle of Manhattan. Harlem was surprisingly clean and open but quite different to the rest of NY. We went to the Guggenheim Museum where I reckon there are quite a few artists laugjing their head off that people actually buy their crap ! The highlight though was the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was fantastic and almost as good as th Louvre. There was art from all periods and countries but the highlight for me was the Egyptian section and esecially the Temple of Darmor.
In the afternoon we did the 3 hour Circle Island boat cruise. This gave us a completely different view of Manhattan as well as getting up close to the Statue of Liberty. The photo include the new tower that is being built to replace the WTC. It is up to 104 floors. The north end of Manhattan looks nothing like the richer south Wall St end. Photos also show the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. We went out for ribs on the way back which were great and filling.
