50 Years Young!
Woke up this morning and talked with Alex who was home safe and sound. Talked with Mum & Dad and Steve went out and got some lovely croissants for breakfast. Steve went and found the laundry place we saw the other day. They wash and fold for 90c a pound! We had accumulated 12 lb 7 oz of washing in a week! We then set out for Central Park and were surprised to see that Broadway has been blocked off for 10 whole blocks and there were street stalls along either side of the road. They were selling cheap sunglasses, jewelry, clothing and and lots of food stalls. It was interesting to walk alongside. Got to Central Park passing Columbus Circle, which is apparently the geographical centre of Manhattan. Ignored the spruikers selling tickets and went straight to a horse and carriage man with a nice looking horse (and a red and white carriage!). We had a 45 minute tour through the park, seeing lots of well known locations , in particular the Fountain used in the start of the show Friends. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and special thing to do on my birthday. We likened it to having to have a ride in a gondola when in Venice. Was very lucky that today is slightly overcast and there is a fresh breeze for the first time since we arrived. We then went into the park and Steve and Tina played kick to kick with the footy that we brought with us! We then strolled back to the hotel along Broadway getting some food for lunch. After a refresh Steve and I went to a bar just on our street for a drink. It was a sports bar and we enjoyed a Drink and Watched the Yankees beat the LA Angels. We collected our 12 lb 7 oz of washing and came and got ready for dinner. Felidia's restaurant was 11 blocks north & 6 blocks East. It was a 25 minute walk and we were quite excited to arrive. It lived up to our expectations. Food and service were impeccable, unfortunately Lidia herself wasn't there. I had the pappardelle with porcini and duck sauce followed by the mixed seafood grill. Steve had stuffed zucchini flowers followed by the lamb chops and Tina enjoyed the beef. We had palacinke to share for dessert and then had to walk back to the room to help digestion! Had planned to catch a taxi back but decided against it. The stroll in the cool evening did the world of good. Off to bed now with full stomachs and big smiles. Exhausted. Must be the age catching up with me!
