Friday the 13th started with a Diner breakfast before we found the train to Hoboken across the river in New Jersey. This is where a Bakery from one of the Food channel shows Cake Boss is located. It wasn't hard to find as there was a long queue and some people in the had waited over two hours so we decided we didn't need to go inside and instead walked around. They have a better view than the people living in Manhattan as they look across the river to Downtown and Midtown.
There was a train direct from Hoboken to the World Trade Centre site so we caught that planning to go and have a look at the 9/11 memorial but again the lines were huge so we went to the Visitors Centre. They have done the memorial very well and as there were 1100 bodies not recovered it is treated as a burial site.
After a light lunch we visited the M & M and Hershey shops then walked to Grand Central Station for an audio tour. It was built in 1913 and is allegedly the biggest and most elegant train station in the world and we can see why. on the way back to the hotel we stopped at an Irish pub for a few drinks. There are Irish pubs everywhere here.
After dinner at Hard Rock Cafe we caught the subway up to Central Park as the New York Philharmonic were giving a free concert. We reckon there was over 300,000 people there. In the photo we are about half way back in the crowd. We didn't stay till the end as we went to the Top of the Rock observation deck which is on the 70th floor of the Rockerfeller building and saw Manhattan at night. This proved to be a good move as there were fireworks at the end of the concert which we saw from the Top of the Rock. By the time we got back to the room it was about 10.30 and we were exhausted so it was straight to bed to be fresh for Christines big day tomorrow !
